Integrating Essential Oils in Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy
Essential Oil Education to support optimal wellbeing
In my work as a NY Psychotherapist, I integrate a holistic, trauma-informed approach to psychotherapy that honors the connection between mind, body, and nervous system. When clinically appropriate and with informed consent, essential oils may be incorporated as a supportive sensory element within psychotherapy sessions, including EMDR and somatic-based trauma treatment.
Essential oils are not used to diagnose, treat, or cure medical or mental health conditions. Rather, they may be offered as an adjunctive grounding or regulation tool, supporting clients in cultivating present-moment awareness, emotional safety, and nervous system stabilization during therapy. Sensory experiences such as scent can gently support mindfulness, resourcing, and embodiment, which are foundational to trauma-focused and EMDR-informed work.
About Essential Oil Practices
Essential oil therapy is a holistic wellness practice that uses therapeutic-grade essential oils derived from plants to support emotional balance, nervous system regulation, and overall well-being. Within an integrative and energy-informed therapeutic framework, essential oils are used to enhance relaxation, reduce stress, and support emotional healing.
Essential oils work primarily through the olfactory system, directly influencing brain regions associated with mood, memory, and emotional regulation. When applied topically (always diluted with a carrier oil), essential oils may also be absorbed through the skin, supporting calming, grounding, or energizing effects.
Gentle oils such as lavender and chamomile are commonly used for stress reduction, sleep support, and emotional soothing. Because essential oils are highly concentrated, professional guidance ensures their safe, intentional, and effective use—especially when integrated with therapeutic modalities like Reiki or psychotherapy.

Relationship to Integrative Psychotherapy
Essential oils, when included, is framed as a sensory support that may help foster a sense of safety, grounding, and relaxation within the therapeutic space. It does not replace clinical techniques such as EMDR, trauma-informed psychotherapy, or other evidence-based interventions.
The focus of treatment always remains on psychological care, ethical practice, and client autonomy.
Aromatherapy + Reiki
Integrating Aromatherapy with Reiki Healing
When combined with Reiki energy healing, aromatherapy creates a deeply supportive environment for emotional regulation, nervous system repair, and energetic balance. Diffusing grounding or calming oils—such as lavender, vetiver, or frankincense—during Reiki sessions can deepen relaxation and support energetic flow.
Topical application of selected oils may further amplify Reiki’s calming and balancing effects, supporting the body’s innate healing response.

Energy Healing Psychology
Energy Healing Psychology & Integrative Psychotherapy
Energy Healing Psychology is an integrative therapeutic approach that honors the mind, body, and energetic system as an interconnected whole. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, this modality addresses how emotional trauma, chronic stress, and unresolved experiences can become held within both the nervous system and the subtle energy body.
Healing is not only cognitive—it is somatic, emotional, and energetic. Through breath, intention, presence, and attuned awareness, we support the release of energetic blockages and restore natural flow and regulation.
